    BBE

10Waiting for his Son from heaven, who came back from the dead, even Jesus, our Saviour from the wrath to come.

    DNT

10and to await his Son from the heavens, whom he raised from among the dead, Jesus, our deliverer from the coming wrath.

These alternate translations might be a little clearer, yet I still prefer the KJV rendition.

    Blessings!

Hello, I agree with brother Chris that verse 9 and 10 are communicating the message of the living and true God and those who once served idols can now serve by the power of the Holy Ghost vs 5, the one who came from heaven, the Son, who was raised from the dead, delivered us by faith vs 3 from the wrath to come, even Jesus.
  • Chris - In Reply on 1 Thessalonians 1 - 8 months ago
Hello Cheryl1655. I think you might have misread that verse. Going back to the previous verse (v9), the Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians there, that after the Gospel came to them, they turned from serving idols to serve the Living God. And not just that, but (in v10), that they now awaited expectantly for Jesus' Return (God's Son coming from Heaven), this Jesus, Whom God had ALREADY raised from the dead, & would deliver them from the wrath to come (of everyday tribulations & the Great Tribulation that is yet to come). So Jesus who had died & rose from the grave, God will one day send Him back to deliver them & us. I hope that clarifies this verse for you.

Andy that word rapture that you are the using. I haven't found that word in the Bible. Please help
  • Andy - In Reply on 1 Thessalonians 1 - 2 years ago
The physical body is here until the rapture (after death). The Spirit of the born again are with Christ. I'm not sure why some seek to complication this simple Biblical truth.
  • Pastor-Ronnie Williams - In Reply on 1 Thessalonians 1 - 2 years ago
You will not find it in the Word of God, because at the last trump sound, the dead in Christ shall rise first. Now if Christians went to heaven when they die then it would not be any to "RISE". Another little point: why would God take you on to heaven just to pull you back out again on judgement day? The KJV states that everyone will be judged according to their works whether good or bad. Always take the Word of God over any man or women out here. If it's not in his Word, then it's not true! You have a blessed day.

    The Bible doesn't say that.

    Naomi,

I agree with your pastor. At the point of our physical death (And by the way, the word death means separation), but at the point of physical death, our physical body will be buried in the ground and will await the resurrection, and that's when our spirit will reunite with our risen body that has been changed from a corruptible body to an incorruptible glorified body.

Again, the word death means separation. When we die (physically), our spirit will depart our body to go to be immediately with the Lord. The word sleep or sleeping in the bible refers to physical death (See the story of Lazarus). When our body dies and is lying in the grave, and if you ever been to a funeral viewing, the dead body that is lying in the coffin looks like it is sleeping. But the spirit of that person is very much alive.

Ask yourself, where is their spirit? If their spirit has separated their body, where did their spirit go. If that person has the Spirit of Christ in them, where is Christ's Spirit right now? Definitely not in the grave!

Again, I believe your pastor is correct in his teaching about this part. I cannot speak to everything else he teaches, as I do not know your pastor. However, if you believe you are being misled by your pastor, or that he is spreading false teaching, I would encourage you to seek another church.

  • Where does Our Spirit go__upon death - In Reply on 1 Thessalonians 1 - 2 years ago
    Acts 7:59

And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

    Acts 8:2

And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

    Luke 23:46

And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my SPIRIT: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

Mishael: these are other scriptures that show awareness of the spirit in Jesus, and those that are born again.

The fleshly body Sleeps, wherever it fell dead, or was buried. The born again to heaven someday.

The unsaved, wicked dead to judgement one day.

When you Google this, be sure you are not on a Catholic doctrine website. The King James Bible which was canonized is the standard for being born again. See the Book of John. I write this in love and concern for all of Gods people.

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

    Hi Naomi,

There was just a discussion related to this:

    Link

I'm sure there's been many others in the past too if you do an advanced search for it.

The Bible says when we die we will enter a state to await Jesus's return then will face judgment all together. It's called judgment day. Matthew 12:36, Hebrews 9:27. There's no verse saying you get to skip this, and nothing saying you go to heaven then go back to earth into your body, only to go back to judgment after you've already been in heaven.

    Daniel 12:2

    Job 14:12

    1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

    1 Corinthians 15:18-20

    Matthew 9:24

Those who believe in instant heaven involves misinterpreting 2 key verses: 1. Misquoting Paul when he said he'd "rather" be in heaven (those sleeping in the grave haven't necessarily departed from their old bodies yet anyway), 2. Thief on cross when Jesus said that day he'd be in "paradise". Most ignore all the other verses above saying we will await Jesus's return, then have a day of judgment. God bless.
  • Naomi Carter on 1 Thessalonians 1 - 2 years ago
Our pastor states at every funeral that when we die we are instantly in Heaven if we are saved. I can not find this in the Bible. My Bible reads that the dead are sleeping and will raise again when Jesus comes back for his own. Where can I find that we are instantly in Heaven when we draw our last breath.

Anthony in the beginning there was no evil until the woman picked the forbidden fruit off of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Satan was in the world but had no power in the garden so Satan had to cause one of the creations to brake the command of God but eating the forbidden fruit. So, Satan used the serpent to talk to the woman, I say woman because she did not have a name except woman in the garden. In the garden all animals ate grass and talked to Adam it was a perfect place. God Bless stay prayed up and ready to go up Cowboy

    Proverbs Chapter 6

16 These six things doth the LORD HATE: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Proverbs 8:13 - The fear of the LORD is to HATE evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Proverbs 11:2 - When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

Proverbs 16:5 - Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 26:12 - Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

Proverbs 27:2 - Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

Proverbs 29:23 - A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

Jeremiah 9:23 - Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

Romans 12:16 - Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

Galatians 6:3 - For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

Philippians 2:3 - Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

James 4:6 - But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

1 John 2:16 - For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the PRIDE of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. (Satan)

Yes He will forgive you. We need to come to God and ask Him for forgiveness and restoration.

Pencil these scriptures on the back page of your Bible. 1 John 1:9 and Hebrews 8:12. God cannot lie.

Part of turning from our sins, is following Jesus, every day until He returns to earth to catch us up to him.

The baby is alive in heaven with God. He said, "All souls are Mine". Keep a bookmark in the Book of John chapter 3.

May God our Father comfort you in this time.

That is true, that God knows each one of us before we were born & also before the thoughts or plans of our parents to conceive. That's why it becomes such a great tragedy when a life is lost in the womb, especially so if it is aborted. God even knew this would happen & the life that was to be a privilege & blessing to the couple had to be returned to the One Who gave it.

But an embryo is unaware of anything else apart from any activity within its tiny frame to survive. Unlike the belief by some religions, the Bible doesn't show that we had any existence prior to our conception & birth & therefore there should be no reason to believe that an unborn child has any other past or any recollections of it or of God. Just my opinion.
  • You were seen in your mothers womb - In Reply on 1 Thessalonians 1:4 - 3 years ago
God chooses us. He sees us in the womb.

Sometimes he calls prophets from the womb. Isaiah and Jeremiah were. David was a King of Israel. John the Baptist is the fulfillment of the prophesy of "a voice crying in the wilderness."

He has a purpose for all of His children. We need to ask Him what that is :)

I was aware of Someone who felt to me like a companion when I was very young; 4 yrs. I was "saved" from accidents or illness, many times. I strayed as a young adult, but when it was time; I was was saved.

Many people share that same testimony.

    I hope this helps. Mishael

Did God choose me before I was born? If so, doesn't that mean I knew Him before I was born?
