The Bible consistently indicates that souls can die and cease to exist. For example, Matthew 10:28, it mentions that the soul can be destroyed, implying it is not immortal. The Greek word translated as soul is psuche, which has several meanings, including the vital breath, the breath of life, the human soul, the soul as the seat of affections and will, consciousness, a human person. Essentially, it includes who we are, and is inseparable.
This does not happen until we are resurrected, when Jesus Christ returns, it is a gift of God, Romans 2:5-7. Immortality is not given until the resurrection from the dead, only then will we be absent from this flesh and blood body and present with the Lord, Revelation 19:11-21, Revelation 20:1-6. The Bible never describes the soul of man as immortal or eternal. We die and are buried mortal, dead in corruption, and we will be raised incorruptible, 1 Corinthians 15:42-44. Every part of us is mortal, and we must put on immortality, 1 Corinthians 15:52-54.
The spirit: The spirit is the breath of life given to us by God, in Luke 25:46 Jesus said to His Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit. In Acts 7:59, Stephen said Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. The spirit empowers us to experience God's profound love, it is through the spirit that we are empowered to live according to the ways of God, embracing righteousness and walking in His ways, in God's Spirit, the Holy Spirit, rather than walking in the ways of the world.
Our spirit is how we communicate with God, Job 32:8, Proverbs 20:27, John 4:24, 1 Corinthians 2:10-12. God inspires or motivates us by stirring up the spirit in a person, 1 Chronicles 5:25-26. God inspired King Cyrus to issue a decree, allowing the Jews to return to Jerusalem, Ezra 1:1.
God has bless the Jews and Muslims on earth and the Christians are getting the benefits from it by Jesus Christ.
In the Bible, Abraham had two sons , Ishmael and Isaac. 1 Chronicles 1:28 The sons of Abraham;Isaac, andIshmael.
The Muslims are bless on earth because God made a promise to Ishmael.
Genesis 17:20
And as forIshmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.
Isaac new name will be Israel and will be God's chosen people for the promises and covenant in Abraham's seed.
Genesis 17:19
And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his nameIsaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
God never forgot the Muslims. Saudi Arabia is one of the world's richest countries .
Genesis 25:13-16
13And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,
14And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,
15Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:
16These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations.
The Jews are God's chosen people.
Genesis 12:3
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Genesis 32:28
And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, butIsrael: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
This verse gives a good indication of the multiple uses of scripture; maybe even the same one.
Whether it is prophecy; moral teachings such as in Proverbs; verses about personal struggles such as Psalms; or historical accounts such as Genesis; or the law as we see in the later Pentateuch in Leviticus and Deuteronomy there are different types of scripture with varying applications for each. As far as "iron sharpening iron" ( Prov. 27:17) the 2 Timothy reference here has 4 different applications relating to personal edification.
We could look at interpreting Balaam and the talking donkey; the bizarre behaviors of Samson with his riddles and burning tails of animals to set a field ablaze or using the jawbone of a donkey to kill many men and his final act of tearing down the house as a type of suicide and dismiss these things as too far fetched. Such would be the case no doubt for the Genesis 6 account of the giants on the earth who in my mind no doubt are mentioned throughout many other passages such as Deuteronomy and the final ones of Goliath and his brothers mentioned in scripture which brought David to ascendance eventually to the throne.
Those who wish to live in stuffy ivory towers may brush aside these tales. The controversy of the Song of Solomon and its sensual imagery made it the last book accepted; I would argue there is a spiritual meaning hidden there; but in the same token not recommend it be read by children.
We can certainly apply the concept of the series of Kings listed in Chronicles; 1 and 2 Kings and other scriptures to see the overall course of these rulers always gravitated toward evil with the exception of a few righteous kings; they were mostly wicked as assessed by God. Unregenerate man is desperately wicked; the Bible shows this clearly.
Hi Hijinx. I don't believe there is any Scripture in the Bible to give a clear answer to your questions, but I sense that from a few verses, it is possible to form an opinion or belief that the Earth is the center of the universe & the sun we see rising, passing over us & descending to the West is proof that it revolves around the Earth.
So, you may consider the following verses, even though they don't explicitly state nor support such an erroneous belief: Joshua 10:12-14; 1 Chronicles 16:30; Psalm 93:1 (stablished = fixed, firm); Psalm 96:10; Psalm 104:5; Isaiah 38:7,8.
Thank you Mtullis150 for those added thoughts for consideration. We are not given every detail about what took place in Moses' life by his interaction with the LORD God, so I suppose, some of what we believe (or, assume) is simply that - an assumption.
What helps me to believe what I shared with you earlier about Moses failing to circumcise his son, is that Moses already had two sons (Gershom & Eliezer) prior to his leaving with his family back to Egypt (Moses obeying God's Command). In Exodus 2:21,22 we read of his first son, Gershom and then in Exodus 4:20, we read that "Moses took his wife and his SONS, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt". So, somewhere between those references, Zipporah gave birth to Eliezer ( 1 Chronicles 23:15, for Eliezer's name).
Then the question arises, 'if Moses, on his return to Egypt, was confronted by the LORD concerning the circumcision of his son, which son is being referred to - the first or second? And if it was the second son being referred to (as the text could infer), then the first son, Gershom, must have been circumcised on the eighth day after birth? So, from this event & the sparse Scriptures we have concerning it, I must 'assume' that Moses must have somehow learned about Abraham, the events surrounding him, & about circumcision, so that at least his (Moses') first son would have been circumcised according to what he learned (whether from an account passed down about Abraham or directly given to him by the LORD).
And the other sad thing I noted from Exodus 4:20, was about the anguish & pain the poor donkey must have endured, having to carry Zipporah & her sons altogether. Hopefully, Moses' family were all delicate in frame, making the long journey easy for everyone.
Hello C.N.C. Thanks for your question. Whenever I consider proper names in the Old Testament, I understand that names given to children are usually given for a particular reason. In other words, those parents don't simply look at how the name sounds, appeals, or its popularity (as might be done today), rather, what special trait might it represent or maybe a name taken from an important ancestor in that family line.
So, in the case of 2 Chronicles 3:17 (and 1 Kings 7:21), it could well be that the names of Jachin & Boaz were given to them for a particular reason by their parents. Now here in these passages, King Solomon wants to reflect the importance of these two pillars (which are certainly outstanding by their position, height, & proximity to those passing by the temple) & so he designates these names as we see here.
In Hebrew, Jachin (Yakin) means "to be established or be firm": maybe representing the God-appointed construction of this structure & its endurance and longevity ( 1 Kings 8:17-20) by Solomon. And Boaz, traditionally taken to mean "in strength & in swiftness". We could only imagine how such meanings could fit here; as Boaz himself was a man of great character & influence, ready to meet the needs of the family (esp. concerning Ruth), could it be that Solomon was envisioning God's Presence & Power displayed here, even as God was ever-present even as the children of Israel gathered outside & within the confines of the Tabernacle of the Congregation & dealt speedily with them, whether for their needs or in judgment? Just a few thoughts for you to consider - others here may share their understanding. Blessings.
Hello Brethren, God bless you all and thank you to everyone that prayed for me back in December.
I have a question. In 2 Chronicles 3:17, why did Solomon name the pillars of the temple Jachin and Boaz? I'm praying about this now, and I'm looking through the scriptures. I find Boaz from The Book of Ruth and I find Jachin as a priest and as an original son of Simeon. Any ideas? Ruckman's commentary points out the original "pillars" are found in Exodus 13:21-22. I thought that was a really great observation.
my respond: Thanks be to God of salvation. praying my prayers souls won to christ &on my own and into to heart to believe jesus christ is Lord be good and well being unto good person of your word

18 The angel of the Lord told Gad to tell David to go and set up an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. 19 David went up according to the directive from Gad, which he had spoken in the name of the Lord.
20 While Ornan was threshing wheat, he turned and saw the angel. Ornan and his four sons hid themselves.
David Builds an Altar
21 As David approached Ornan, Ornan looked up and saw David. He went out from the threshing floor and bowed to David with his face to the ground. 22 David said to Ornan, "Give me the site of the threshing floor. I will build an altar to the Lord on it. You will give it to me for full price, and the plague will be averted from the people."
The Jebusites were one of the peoples Israel was to wipe out according to Deuteronomy 20:17. Nonetheless; God's will was for David to build an altar to the Lord at the site that this individual resided. We note in the verses immediately after this passage Ornon's willingness to give David the land and animals needed for sacrifice but David knew better and insisted it should cost him something.
There is another incident in 2 Samuel where Uriah the Hittite was sinned against because of David's adultery with his wife; and subsequent "self fulfilling prophecy" of his demise on the battle field essentially being a planned murder. Only God's grace could cover over these sins; and it would leave scars on David's life as was the other aforementioned incident in Chronicles when David insisted on a census rather than trusting God for victory and not in numbers. Once again in this example the Hittites were to be wiped out as enemies of God but this man was clearly loyal to the king and at least followed Godly principles above and beyond the norm. We also as with many other verses see how the marriage covenant is honored among pagans; making actions such as Henry the eighth to absolve himself through divorce and murder of his wives vile sins.
2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. (first part of verse; second shows resulting results for Asa's behavior).
The whole world is corrupt beyond easure; whether it is what is within men's hearts; or the world system; or the demonic principalities and powers controlling the affairs of men. We have made idols of popular foods; actors and actresses; musicians and our general way of life which we desire to maintain at all costs.
Proverbs 14:34 says Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. Whether it is grandma or her apple pie that brings us comfort only the Lord and those in Him will live forever and things in this life are fleeting. All desires of the flesh of beauty also are temporal along with any material goods that we obsess over. The Kingdom of Heaven is more than eating and drinking ( Romans 14:17) and for some reason the Gospel quote I am having difficulty finding. The point is the Holy Spirit must take over our minds and control our bodies and souls and put to death the old mind; otherwise known as mortifying the flesh ( Romans 8:13). Or as the quote mentioned in church today stated when the demon possessed child was to be healed "Lord help me with my unbelief". ( Mark 9:23 and following verses with anecdote).
Or as the song "How Deep the Father's Love" states in the end of the third stanza. "Ashamed I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers."
Those TRULY in the Lord will also recognize when the enemy is falsely accusing them of not knowing the Lord whenever a believer falls into sin or having fallen beyond redemption as another accusation. In my experience I have found that is a common way the Lord reigns me in to realize the sin that I've committed and to once again trust Him so that I am protected from the enemy's strongholds. Never try to outsmart the enemy.
Loretta, I am sorry to hear about this major challenge, it must be terrible for you. I am going to pray for you. But I am also going to give you some practical steps to take. I shall divide the response into two parts. Part A & Part B.
PART A:
Loretta, As challenging as it is YAH/GOD is well able [ Daniel 3:17]. Also you were born for a time like this [ Esther 4:14 ]so the ability to conquer this in YESHUA/ JESUS Name has been placed in you from even before the foundation of the world [ Ephesians 1:4].
You are at war. The first thing you need to do is:- develop a warrior's mindset. A warrior in YESHUA knows that YAH said HE would fight for you and you will hold your peace. [ Exodus 14:14].that the battle is HIS [ 2 Chronicles 20:17] that HE is a man of war [ Exodus 15:3] That HE has given you the power to trample on snakes and scorpions and all the power of the enemy and nothing in no way can hurt you [ Luke 10:19] That the battle has already been won [ Colossians 2:15] When you speak HIS Word you are only reinforcing the victory.
Be obedient as disobedience is witchcraft [ 1 Samuel 15:23]. It gives the devil legal rights. So if YAH/GOD has told you to do something, do it. At least 50 % of your problems would cease because YAH/GOD /would back you up when you are obedient to HIS Will.
The neighbor has studied you and tried you to see who you are and what he can get away with. As he studied you and has a 'file' on you; you now need to study him and create a file on him. And regarding the things you discover, take every thing you find out about him to YAH in prayer. Always ask YAH/GOD to "Uproot the confidence of the wicked []
Stop the demon neighbor's actions with prayers. For example he knows when you are going to bathe and he abuses you. Prepare for him. He expects you to do the normal and he expects to get away with it. So find several right bible verses. Write them out in a book.
There are many examples in the Old Testament , of God saving the Israelites from their enemies . Read in particular the books of Samuel , Kings and Chronicles .
The ' arm ' is your confidence , your strength , putting your confidence in the flesh is a mistake .
God saves , literally , metaphorically and spiritually , He is our strength and we should only ever trust in Him , not in our own powers or in the powers of others , governments , armies , politicians etc . They and we , are just people . God is all powerful and can do as He wishes with any of us . If we loose a battle we have to accept defeat and assume that it was / is God's will that we loose a battle , maybe we were in the wrong , maybe God has other plans for us .
If our ways are not in accordance with His will , then He will let us know and we have to accept His judgements upon us .

2 Chronicles 25:19 KJV
Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
My Respond:
It's best not to do what you believe in yourself if not of God to say and do. Because it can turn into pride that can lead to a defeat.
2 Chronicles 25:18 KJV
And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.
My Respond:
"Our strength and success, should always be grounded in obedience to God, not in your abilities & pride." My interpetation what has blessed me not to believe in thistle but to Trust in God Ephesians 6:15 KJV having obedience not to go astray staying aligned with God's will.
When it comes to our own logics and preparations we must see logic as the set of rules we must follow to think like God thinks , when is to think rightly . Logic undegirds morality , making decisions between right and wrong. Gives a clear conscience to speak and behave and helps you making decisions not to be bitter and harm people. To help have preparations is to read your bible ( Romans 12:2 KJv)
Preparation- In a general sense, to fit, adapt, or qualify fir a particular purpose, end, use, service, or state, by any means whatever.
Ways your logic can be in God's logic is come to God in humility to receive Jesus Christ in your heart ( Romans 10:9-10 KJV) believing in his death burial , resurrection.- Matthew 27:50 KJVMatthew 27:51 KJV, Matthew 28:9 KJV .
Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in YOU, which was ALSO IN Jesus Christ:
Philippians 2:6 Christ being in the FORM of God, thought it not robbery to be EQUAL with God.
We are the IMAGE of God, NOT the FATHER GOD, we are heirs of our Father, as Christ is heir.
We INHERIT Son ship, being made ONE FLESH by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
John 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he had not only BROKEN the Sabbath, but said that God was his FATHER, making him EQUAL with God.
Is God your Father?
Are you EQUAL with God; or, are you THE FATHER?
Christ is not THE GOD, Christ is a god, a HEIR, and we joint HEIRS.
Psalms 136:2 O give thanks to the GOD of gods ......
John 17:21 That they maybe ONE; as thou, Father, art IN ME, that they may also be ONE, IN US, that the world may believe thou has sent me.
Ephesians 4:6 There is ONE BODY (Christ; and we, as one flesh. in Christ), and ONE SPIRIT (God, our Father)......
Ephesians 4:7 One Lord (and we as lords of our Lord), one faith (of Jesus Christ), one baptism (into the NAME or Jesus Christ)..... 2 Chronicles 7:14 ..... called by my name......
Ephesians 4:8 One God, and Father of ALL, who is above ALL, and through you ALL, and in you ALL.
Does our soul live on after we die? Do the souls of the dead roam around on the earth and some are in heaven and some are in hell? This is my understanding, the thought or belief in ghosts or spirits of people, some going to heaven and some going to hell comes from the teaching that the soul is immortal, and the soul never dies. It started when the serpent told Eve you shall not surely die, many ancient nations had different forms of religious beliefs on the immortality of the soul, and what we see today was adopted from Greek philosophy.
Are there evil spirits, devils, and demons on this earth? Yes, and these are what people are encountering, my understanding of the Bible they are not the souls of people. God told Israel and it applies to us today, not to deal with mediums or spiritualism those who work divination. We see Saul doing it in 1 Samuel 28 and he died because he did it, 1 Chronicles 10:13.
We sleep in death when we die Psalm 13:3Matthew 27:52John 11:11-141 Corinthians 15:20. We only put on immortality when we are resurrected, Job 14:13-14Daniel 12:21 John 5:28-29 Corinthians 15:51-54. I hope this helps but you and your husband study it for your understanding, not mine.
Yes ! That a great verse . I'm assuming that 3 different scribes penned the books of Samuel , the books of Kings and the books of Chronicles . Each of them may have brought their own political and social biases with them , which is only human .
Whoever penned that verse was ignoring David's failure to punish his own son , who raped David's own daughter , according to God's laws .
One glaring inconsistency concerns what happened to Saul's body and how David reacted to what happened , depending on which book you are reading . In 1st Samuel chapter 31 verses 11-13 we read what the valiant men of Jabesh-Gilead did . In 2nd Samuel chapter 2 verses 5-7 we get David's favourable response to their actions .
Let's jump on to 2nd Samuel chapter 21 , a very interesting chapter all round but let's go straight to verse 12 , where it seems a different attitude prevails .
About chapter 21. It is another example of how David manipulates the situation in order to circumvent the promise that he made to Saul in 1st Samuel chapter 24 verses 21+22 . In 2nd Samuel ch 2 v 8 we discover that Abner is Saul's biological cousin and Ch 2 and 3 give us an account of what went on between Joab and Abner (Saul's cousin ) . It seems to me that Joab is right in his estimation of Abner's character and motives but David will have none of it , he treats Abner as a friend , in my opinion he knows full well how Joab will react and behave in this situation , in fact he's counting on Joab to do what he knows he can't do because of his promise to Saul . My theory can be backed up by David's behaviour in 2nd Samuel ch 21 v 1-11. He appears to condone human sacrifice as he arranges the murders of Saul's two sons and five grandsons on the pretext of appeasing the Gibeonites , who aren't even of Israel . Just what David wanted to do but could not because of his oath . Mephibosheth is the last son of Saul and he's a cripple , David keeps a close eye on him and his only son Micha who is mentioned only once .
1 Chronicles 21:1 And SATAN stood upon against Israel and CAUSED David to number Israel.
2 Samuel 24:1 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and HE (God) moved (CAUSED) David against them to say, Go, number Israel, and Judah.
Thanks for your reply, I know many have the understanding the sons of God in Genesis 6 are the line of Seth and the daughters of men are of Cain and those not following God. I will just give a little of my understanding not in debate.
Scripture tells us there were Nephilim/giants in the world before and after the flood Genesis 6:42 Samuel 21:16Joshua 12:4Numbers 13:33Deuteronomy 2:19-21Amos 2:9 Also in Joshua 13, 15, 17, 18, 2 Samuel 21 and 1 Chronicles 20 Also, in the Old Testament, there is the Rephaim or Rephaites, and the context describes them as giants. so, where did they come from?
2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 1: 6 tell us of a group of angels who left their first estate and are locked in darkness. Many other fallen angels we battle including Satan are on this earth 2 Corinthians 11:14-15. But these angels are locked in darkness until judgment, and we see in Revelation 9:11 they have a king. These angels had to do something far greater than rebelling against God, my understanding is they adulterated God's creation, we see how corrupt it got.
We know from Jude and 2 Peter angels sinned, kept not their first estate, and left their habitation. Estate means condition, status, and dominion, and habitation means residence or dwelling place. I understand how many takes Matthew 22:30 and Mark 12:25 but Jesus is not referring to sex He is saying when we are resurrected, we will be like the angels in heaven who are immortal. We are mortal, we have to marry and reproduce when we are resurrected, we will be raised immortal same as the angels no more need to marry and reproduce, and we will be on the earth not heaven.
We see angels come down on earth that have bodies, they can eat and drink, Genesis 18:1-8 and other places like Hebrews 13:2. To me the angels who left their estate is where these giants came from, and we see when Israel went into the promised land God wiped out the giants or had them kill them all even the children.

And Jesus Christ has been blessing me to have salvation, in all aspects and areas in my life I have been in and when I go to receive money , food. Clothes and many other things that the world itself could not contain.
Salvation- The act of saving preseveration ,preservation from destruction, danger and great calamity.
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV
"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." 1 Peter 5:7 KJV
1 Chronicles 28:3 says but God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood.
2 Samuel 7:18 to the end of the chapter shows David's response after Nathan the prophet did an about face to his original encouragement for David to build the Temple (house of God). It doesn't state the reason as the Chronicles passage does. Here we see that David's plans were to be tabled for the next generation through his son Solomon. Being the man of God and humility David was he praised God despite what may have seemed like bad news. This perhaps gave him solace after the first son of Bathsheeba died as collateral damage for his sin of getting rid of her original husband and committing adultery with her beforehand. Divine Providence allowed the line of the Messiah to be through this lineage; just as it was with Rahab the "harlot" who was also in the family tree. In terms of answering this prayer we have much detail of the tremendous resources and talents that went into preparations that Solomon would complete but concurrently be involved with while David was still alive.
This prayer is one of the more quoted ones; it will be too much at present to discuss all of David's prayers.
Much of 1 Samuel and beginning of 2 Samuel involve the long and tortuous schizophrenic type (actually demonically influenced) of Saul and David's unfortunate cohabitation. Ever since the story of David slaying Goliath; and the women celebrating David as having done a greater accomplishment than Saul his madness began. His problems began from rebellion and not obeying God fully with slaying the Amalekites; as well as attempting himself to do a sacrifice which only priests were allowed to do. He had already been rejected from the throne but did all he could until his demise to attack David; and occasionally appear to have what was left of sanity; and met David with tears of remorse. I may cover this later
I haven't yet assimilated the massive scope of material related to David's prayers from Psalms; Chronicles and the book of Kings yet. I thought I would explore some major themes before delving into specific prayers. I previously got into descriptions of some of the types of Psalms. It is hard to dissect sometimes from what is prayer and what is other material. Here are some concepts
"Declarations". This is a topic I briefly may have mentioned some time ago in regard to truth and error. David would declare promises from God's covenants and then invoke Him to bring it to fruition. This theme was repeated by Daniel in the book bearing his name in regard to the return from exile after 70 years of captivity; by Moses in the desert and no doubt in other examples. Of course what it doesn't mean is making our own proclamations are trying to strongarm God to achieve our will even if we use scripture and twist it or violate the original meaning to do so. It doesn't "invoke" blessings either; perhaps if something is prayed with a pure heart that will result in God's favor leading to a blessing. God will not violate His own ordinances on sin; instead will bring a curse to those who claim covenant with Him and insist on retaining sins or praying in order to fulfill desires through sinful activity.
Promises. This is similar to a covenant declaration but usually based on an individual revelation from the Lord. It is too bad that Abraham didn't spend more time praying before trying to circumvent God's plan for offspring through Sarah. We can see this with God's assurances to Gideon as we discussed before which he needed further proof of before going to battle. Many times of course we can relate to David's prayers when it seemed he was about to be cornered for good and killed by Saul's army or Saul himself. God preserved David's life and answered these prayers; if for no other reason than to establish him as rightful king
Dear Brother , it is my understanding that Saul and David represent the two covenants , one exclusively for those physically circumsized and those spirituality circumsized , those under the law of Moses and those under the grace in Christ . Saul perished because he broke God's laws , David broke God's laws many times but was forgiven even though he was living his life in the times and covenant of Moses ,which covenant did not provide much in the way of forgiveness . The life of David us literally bursting with important lessons for us all and I feel is very worthy of in depth study . 1st Samuel chapter 15 , in particular verses 24 + 26 + 31 + 35 . Also 2nd Samuel chapter 7 especially verses 12-17 . There is a wealth of knowledge and beauty in the books of Samuel and Kings and Chronicles , all there because God wants us to read it and understand it and draw closer to Him through it . It is as valid and helpful as anything in the New Testament .
As far as I can see (although I am not well acclimated with all texts between 1 and 2 Chronicles; Kings and Samuel as to every narrative and the chronological placement with redundant accounts) it seems Saul never prayed again after this. It seems after the inquiry at the end of his earthly existence from the witch of Endor that even if it was a true visitation from Samuel beyond the grave; his soul was probably lost (we note that ALL who died before Christ came were in one part of Sheol or another; so the comment that he would join him after death could mean he was in either place).
These scriptures continue to be a difficult study. God was patient enough with Saul that perhaps He put Saul on a probation; of sorts after the 1 Samuel 13 incident; but He revealed in chapter 15 that He was grieved that Saul was king. We remember also that the people wanted a king of formidable status; in this case a man of tall stature and a warrior to "rule over them" as we see in chapter 8 of 1 Samuel. The choice was destined to head towards David; who incidentally as far as I can see outshone everyone else in prayer; with the exception of our Lord and Savior but David has more specific prayers recorded. I will soon transition into that as Saul was involved in a tortuous and insane love/hate relationship with David where many times he tried to kill him (I read in one Bible commentary 21 times). This would begin David's anguished prayers; later to be followed by prayers of contrition after his own transgressions and many inspired texts related to these issues in Psalms in particular.
Here there was more pain; including for Jonathan as well as the results of collateral damage due to the Bathsheeba and the census incidents which I will cover eventually. These scriptures are often prophetic about him as well as Christ and also show how prayer during trials was also our Lord's experience and part of God's design to play out in life.
GOD grant that we may be like the children of Isaachar (verse 32 below) in His hands, hands of GOD the Almighty.
I Chronicles 12:23-40
23 Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish: and they were among the mighty men, helpers of the War.

....
32 And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do;(now, what the Lord's Church of the Lord ought to do, even now, from now on, for example Matthew 25:6); the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.

May our Lord GOD BLESS and keep us, and give us His protection
What I have been taught is that the books of the OT are arranged with : Pentateuch (Books written by Moses)Genesis-Deuteronomy; then the books of the history of Israel from entering the Promised land under Joshua to the reign of the kings of Israel and Judah (Joshua-2 Chronicles); Ezra and Nehemiah are historical books covering the time of the return from Babylonian exile of Judah; Esther is somewhat of an anomaly since it doesn't have a very clear time frame as far as placement in Israel's history; Job is an ancient wisdom book (Job lived between the time of the flood and Abraham, being a distant cousin of Abraham)
Psalms is poetic musical writing; Proverbs and Ecclesiastes is also wisdom books; and Song of Solomon is allegorical.
As far as the remainder of the OT, the books of the prophets are arranged from longest to shortest.
In the NT; first is the 4 Gospels Then Acts is the history of the early church; the epistles are listed, (again), from longest to shortest. And Revelation is what is called apocalyptic writing (which usually contains much allegory, symbolism, and sensational representations of future events.
In the Old Testament; there were 2 types of roles for a Prophet. In 1 Chronicles 21:9-13 we have Gad who is David's "seer".
He was given the task of telling David after the Satanically inspired census that there were 3 punishments that would result.
He had no need at that time apparently to mention what the punishment was for as David apparently realized the error of his ways. That is different than Nathan the Prophet at the time he took Bathsheeba as his wife and had Uriah the Hittite set up to die on the front lines in 2 Samuel 11. It would seem that Proverbs 6:34 showed Solomon's wisdom in avoiding showing feigned favor to the husband of a woman someone else is involved with; perhaps it was inspired from what happened in part with David and his mother years previous.
The second role was more of a general statement of future events covered in much of the "major prophets" such as Daniel; Jeremiah; Isaiah and Ezekiel and the minor ones (with smaller overall text) such as Zechariah; Zephaniah; etc.
I am no expert on the office of Prophet today but it seems cessationists may say a Pastor teaching from the Word is also in that type of ministry. I would also say that those who use the Word only as a warning could be in that category. The controversy is if these "signs and wonders" gifts have ceased. I would first eliminate all the pretenders who clearly make things up from their imaginations and false prophets and those who have no factual basis or vary vague statements about persons or events that are very subjective. We are also warned that should someone say something that doesn't come to pass OR that DOES but incites us to worship a false God is to be ignored and kicked out of any church if they try to do this. (See Deut. 18:22 and Deut. 13:2).
We must also avoid fear of things to come. Someone telling the truth should offer some hope even in the worst warnings. The biggest red flag is always predicting prosperity.
I have often kidded around about having someone memorize the first 6 or 7 chapters of 1 Chronicles. Genealogies aren't to be obsessed over ( 1 Tim. 1:4); however they are vital in seeing the lineage of God's people. The beginning of Matthew; for instance gives us the lineage from Abraham to Joseph; and Luke from Mary's lineage all the way back to Adam. This of course goes back to Genesis 3:15 and the "seed of the woman" prophecy. These two lineages probably are enough to know in themselves from the whole Bible in regard to that subject. If we go deeper into meanings of names particularly in the first generations it appears there is a prophetic indication of Christ to come if we list the names and their meanings in order in Hebrew. There are no doubt patterns of equidistant letters that are unique in scripture pointing to certain events. Again; like genealogies; they are best not obsessed over; for we already know Christ is the living Word so we don't need hidden clues as to who He is. We can look to past events; and I have stated that Michael Drosnin's prediction of Rabin's assassination in 1996 may have been something the Lord allowed so others wouldn't meet the same fate. Since we are now still in the Church Age; we are not in the time of Revelation when prophets once again are on the earth in that role and there is a known 7 year template for all the judgments to occur. God has ultimate truths that must come to pass; but some things are conditional which only He knows that prayer and action now can possibly delay judgment; as we see with the example of Nineveh.
We can look to history and scientific facts as authenticated from the Bible; with more coming all the time. For the skeptic who God chooses to enlighten it may be a good witnessing tool; but we shouldn't make such methods are only talking points for apologetics. First we must see if someone is serious about wanting to hear the truths of the Word
I have touched on several good devotional sources in posts last year; namely Oswald Chambers "utmost for the Highest" and Daily Bread. This site also is helpful when highlighting a daily Bible verse for the surrounding text to consider.
If I have the terminology correct Expository preaching is systematic reading of a book chapter by chapter. There is another term for topical studies that I am sure someone here knows. For a new believer it is hard to argue with the standard approach of beginning in the Gospels (usually John is picked) and then transitioning to Paul's Epistles. Scripture memory is helpful for two reasons particularly for new believers; one for edification and second to have verses to explain the hope within us in Christ when witnessing. Taking the example of John 3:16 for instance we have the assurance of eternal life but if we read the surrounding text we see in verse 18 that he who does NOT believe in Him is condemned already. This is one danger of "cherry picking" an isolated verse that gives us "positive vibes" and not comprehending God's Word as to repetitive themes; in this case blessings for obedience and faith and cursings for not believing. This contrast between good and bad is throughout scriptures; whether we look at warnings in Deuteronomy as to conditions affecting the entire nation because of disobedience vs obedience; Psalms and Proverbs related to characteristics of righteous and wicked and books of Chronicles and Kings as to righteous and unrighteous kings.
We are to be cautious; therefore with any devotionals that always have "encouraging" verses or if the author is skewed in that direction. The opposite could be said of the Oswald Chambers as some have accused it of being works oriented too much; they certainly are challenging unlike anything I've read. In terms of scripture memory; it is useful but internalizing the Living Word through meditation and application also.
2 Kings 8:26 Ahaziah was 22 years old when he began his reign after his father died.
2 Chronicles 22:2 Ahaziah was 42 when he began his reign.
I've heard numerous explanations; I am looking for a consensus viewpoint.
Was there a mistranslation as it was supposed to say "Sum of Years" as in the 42 years of reign that had passed since the house of Omri. Or was it mistranslated and intended to say 22 years like 2 Kings. Or is there another explanation.
Proverbs 29:1 KJ21 He that, being often reproved, stiffeneth his neck shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
This is the fate of all the unregenerate who do not repent. A prime example is Pharoah during Moses' extensive dialogue with him warning of his fate defying God's will when it came to the sacrifice that his people desired in the desert. One should note that it was only requested for a short trip for this ceremony at first but eventually Pharoah drove them out and yet once again attempted to capture them to enslave them before his armies were destroyed in the Red Sea. Pharoah himself may not have been there but it seems his fate was sealed.
We see evidences such as 2 Chronicles 13:10-13 where Manasses repented after doing horrible abominations in the land; but we also see verses that state that even though they pray to God those devoted to destruction will not be heard ( Jeremiah 11:11 and Micah 3:4).
In seeing these examples; we ought to not test God as they were warned in the wilderness. We are warned not to rebuke a fool either ( Prov. 9:8). We should listen to God the first time; and realize that He chastens all He loves; and the opposite therefore indicates that without that discipline we are not His own as we see comparing Peter in the Bible to Judas Iscariot. All of us have a death sentence due to sin; but some choose to come to their end sooner through particularly evil lifestyles and behaviors.
No amount of pride brings joy; and our minds can only find solace in being left alone in our state once we have lost all pleasure in worldly things due to aging. Proverbs 5:14 talks about being almost in ruin in the congregation due to sins; but that is preferable to pining away alone; for Solomon saw this reality also in Ecclesiastes seeing that all things apart from God were vanity. In short; a saved man sees His old life crucified; new life in Christ and the Body of believers his adopted family (see Ephesians 1:23).
Part 2

Ray, in Christ Jesus 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
2 Timothy 3:16
Blessings.
I thought that was a really great observation.

has blessed my and my house giving to me of God "
Agape.
If God be for us , who can be against us .

We sleep in death when we die Psalm 13:3 Matthew 27:52 John 11:11-14 1 Corinthians 15:20. We only put on immortality when we are resurrected, Job 14:13-14 Daniel 12:2 1 John 5:28-29 Corinthians 15:51-54. I hope this helps but you and your husband study it for your understanding, not mine.
God bless,

2 Samuel 24:1 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and HE (God) moved (CAUSED) David against them to say, Go, number Israel, and Judah.
God Bess You
Thanks for your reply, I know many have the understanding the sons of God in Genesis 6 are the line of Seth and the daughters of men are of Cain and those not following God. I will just give a little of my understanding not in debate.
Scripture tells us there were Nephilim/giants in the world before and after the flood Genesis 6:4 2 Samuel 21:16 Joshua 12:4 Numbers 13:33 Deuteronomy 2:19-21 Amos 2:9 Also in Joshua 13, 15, 17, 18, 2 Samuel 21 and 1 Chronicles 20 Also, in the Old Testament, there is the Rephaim or Rephaites, and the context describes them as giants. so, where did they come from?
God bless,

Psalms 27:9 KJV
"Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation."
Respond: Psalms 27:9 KJV
I pray and have faith the land I'm living in USA will be replenished flourishing of God goodness of his earth and resources .
Respond: 1 Peter 5:7 KJV
Greetings in Christ JESUS
Thanks for your kind reply
