Galatians 1:8 "But though we, Paul says we, as in the believers that speak, and are trusted with the gospel message 1 Corinthians 16:22. or an angel from heaven, again not a fallen angel, but an angel, a messanger from heaven. preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Compare to Matthew 18:6. "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Jesus came to give us life, John 10:10 its understandable why He would feel that way about someone preaching another gospel. Romans 1:16.

Paul was speaking about about what he was and what he is through the grace and the redemption of our saviour Jesus Christ.

I love reading the comments that folks share about their beliefs and interpretations of the verses. Udemeabasi, it seems you are comparing Galatians 1 8 to Romans 12 14, but if you read the Roman 's verse carefully, I believe you will see that Paul is speaking of person to person relationships. Whereas, in Galatians, he is referring to the gospel, that is the life, death and resurrection of our Lord. Be blessed, my friend.

The Christian calling is not of man but of God
  • Joni G on Galatians 1 - 9 years ago
Udemeabasi, Paul was saying people should be accursed who try to change our Lord Jesus gospel. Teachers were trying to make new converts follow laws and traditions instead of following Christ who preached grace and redemption.
  • Udemeabasi on Galatians 1:8 - 9 years ago
I believe that Galatians 1 8 is completely contrary to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, which Paul himself recognized in Romans 12 14. In as much as I cannot say for certain that it was a mistranslation, neither can I say for sure that it depicted the level of maturity of Paul at the time, I will rather choose to live by the gospel. To love my enemies, do good to them that hate me, bless them that curse me and pray for them that despitefully use me and persecute me. There are so many today preaching 'another gospel '. My response to those is to pray for them, that their eyes of understanding be enlightened if they are sincerely wrong. For those whose wrong message is for personal gains, my response is to pray for them to have an encounter with Christ that will deliver them, while my prayer to those following them is for their eyes to be opened to the truth of the gospel, that they may be set free from the bondage of wrong doctrines. Our response should be love at all times. That is the only thing we owe to all men. We contend for the faith by standing by the truth and speaking the truth, even if it is going to cost us our lives. Not to please ANY MAN.

For me Paul stands out as one of the greatest messengers of the word of God
  • Tumane on Galatians 1 - 9 years ago
An incredible testimony of someone who was completely consumed and engulfed in the word of God. Spiritual wisdom which has the power to transform lives beyond reproach. To me Paul represents the most powerful individual in the bible. A devoted individual who lived and ate the word of God. In all his books I find strength and power and courage to raise the flag of Christianity beyond any imagination.
  • Bob Gilliland on Galatians 1:8 - 9 years ago
In response to the former statement. Paul did not say something that did not fit the New Testament gospel. He wrote as the Holy Spirit moved him to write. Please see 2Pe 1 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 2Pe 1 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. Isn 't it true that the Holy Spirit can cause a man to write that God says a man that preaches another gospel is accursed
  • Larry bunch on Galatians 1 - 9 years ago
Ch.1 12 God says, "that the bible is only revealed to a saved person by God. " No man has the ability to see Christ in the scriptures unless God reveals each word to you in the spirit

From my studies of the Bible I have come to the following conclusion James the author of the book of James is the brother of Jesus but he was not a desciple of Jesus The other two James are disciples chosen by our Lord Jesus They are the brothers James and Juda Alpheus and the brothers John and James Zebedee So there are two desciples an on brother of Jesus not desciple in the NT There is another James mentioned beside Galatians chapter one they are in Luke 24 10 Which says Mary the mother of James and the same thing is mentioned in Mark 16 1 it could be one of the two Marys mentioned but it s not clear Please have in mind that in those days girls had always a second name which was Mary
  • Stanley Berry on Galatians 1:19 - 10 years ago
There is no evidence that James the Lord s brother was ever made an Apostle In any case commentators vary as to which James is being spoken of ie James the Lord s half brother or James the son of Alpheus Jesus cousin
  • Elijah on Galatians 1 - 10 years ago
This chapter is a great one prophesying against Mormonism. Mormons make themselves apostles (v1) and believe in another gospel from an angel named Moroni. (v6-9) That's just two of many differences between their gospel/beliefs and ours.
  • Patrick on 1 Corinthians 15 - 10 years ago
If you have not seen Pauls gospel yet in this chapter, consider what he writes in the first 4 verses; Paul declares the gospel to the existing believers in Corinth which they had received and which they had taken a stand, and by which they were saved. Paul writes in verse 3,4. the gospel message that he had received ( Galatians 1:11,12.)Paul received this gospel from Christ himself. There should be no other gospel preached only Pauls Galatians 1:6-10. Do you see Pauls gospel?
Ephesians 1:13 says they heard the word of truth the gospel and believed and were sealed and saved. Christ died for OUR SINS was buried and rose again according to the scriptures;thats the gospel of your salvation.
  • Joe on Galatians 1 - 10 years ago
I believe it was to simply clarify which James he was talking about. After all, there were two other James among the twelve apostles, James the Son of Zebedee and James the son of Alphaeus. See Matthew 10:2-4. Perhaps Paul could have called him James the son of Joseph, but when he mentioned him as James the Lords brother, there was no mistaking which James he was referring to.
  • David Shanyibwa on Galatians 1:19 - 10 years ago
Why use "the Lord's brother" to distinguish James? why not use any other identification?
  • Jo on Galatians 1:4 - 10 years ago
According to Catholic teaching: The distinction between an evil age and evil world is an important one. Paul doesn't say the world is evil because it isn't. God made the world, and it is good. As the church tells us in the Catechism, "Because creation comes forth from God's goodness, it shares in that goodness". There is evil in the world, and the world suffers from the punishment for sins, just as people do; (see Romans 1:18-32) but we should maintain that the world itself is good. The fact that Jesus became a man to deliver us from evil actually confirms that human life in this world is a good thing, worthy of his sacrifice.

I keep hearing all of Christendom say, the cross, the cross, that is all we need. That isn't exactly correct. At the cross Christ sealed forever His entire sufferings of 33-1/2 years on this earth...from the cradle to the grave. The major ones, the wilderness, and in the Garden of Gethsemane. His early years protected to some degree by the Heavenly Angels, but when He laid down the carpentry tools for the last time, the gloves were off, satan had unfettered access to Him. By the time of the cross all decisions had been made. Just as we seal our eternal life or death, by our death, so Christ sealed forever His works in our behalf...that includes the Righteousness that God requires for each of us to enter the Kingdom of God, Heaven. So, God requires Perfect and Absolute Obedience, but man has this not to give, therefore, Christ lived a Perfect Life that He Imputes unto us, and His Father and ours declares us Righteous based upon the Perfect Life of Christ, a life that He lived in our place.

Salvation is through Jesus Christ and him only. We have to put our faith in Christ and he will save you.
  • DK on Galatians 1 - 10 years ago
As concerning Galatians, Chpt One.. Robert is exactly right.
It is what Christ did at Calvary that Saves Us Completely (It is "Finished"..).. We are Justified by our Faith in what Christ did at the Cross at Cavalry ( Rom 4-25; Rom 5-16&18), We are "Born Again" (Rom. Cpt 6: 3-5 by Christ's Finished work at the Cross...And we are "Sanctified" by our Exclusive Faith in Jesus and what was accomplished at the Cross. Paul preached "Christ and Him Crucified". He said " For I determined not to know anything among you save Jesus Christ and Him Crucified" 1Cor.Chpt2-Vs2. "For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Gospel not with wisdom of words lest the Cross of Christ should be made to None effect. For the preaching (message) of the Cross is to them who perish foolishness; but unto us who are saved, it is the Power of God"(1Cor.Chp1-vs 17-18)---Paul is saying here that the Power of God, which is the Holy Spirit, comes through what Christ did at the Cross exclusively.. AND that "The Gospel IS CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED".. which is where our Faith in that Finished Work brings us to Salvation, Justification, Sanctification and VICTORY..

This is my prayer for Fainthel; according to Ephesians 1:17-21. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when He Raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in heavenly places, far above Principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world ,but also in that which is to come. Amen!!
