Does the Bible speak of the age of accountability? Is 8yrs old too young to know the difference between right and wrong in biblical speaking? Thank you!

Hiya Rebecca lemme give ya my feelings on this....David said they go estray soon as they are born... Psalms 58 : 3....with God there is no age of accountability...And in sin did my mother conceive me...When Jacob and Esau were still in the womb God said he hated Esau but loved Jacob....One was born of the Flesh but 1 was born of the Spirit....The 2 Children struggled in the womb....And thats the way it is today....God looks at the heart not the age....All Children are born with the stain and the spot of Adam....Thus they will have to be bornagain at some point...no exceptions....We all struggle with our old adamic nature...we are all in a war with satan.....Soon as our Children are born they have a potential to sin at some point in their lives....Thats the remedy we must all be bornagain of an incorrruptible seed.

...... Gen 8... God said that man goes astray from his youth.....i baptised all my Children in the name of Jesus the day they were born...Tru story...I put them all in Gods hands...There is this big billboard on Hyw 69 here in Tx...Pray for your CHILDREN EVERY DAY....I love that billboard...And its a hugh billboard....I really think we should pray for our CHILDREN EVERY DAY....K

Gi Gi Gods' spirit can be born in us,..thats y Jesus is saying that which is born of the spirit is spirit which is the H.G...that good seed is spirit thus the fruit is spirit a baby Christ...The Child of Promise the H.G....That was the great Promise that Christ wd be multiplied as the stars of Heaven...Thats y the woman is giving birth simply b/c she was impregnated by his good seed the living word..Her Child which is the manchild the H.G. WHICH is spirit...They don't call Jesus the bridegoom for nothin he has a seed to sow in us sinners...My lil Children of whom i travail in birth till CHRIST IS FORMED IN YOU....The Child is the H.G THE CHILD OF Promise...She brought forth a man child which is gonna rule all nations which is spirit as God is spirit...

.....Jesus cd not refer to the H.G. as the Promise if he were not the multiplication of very God in humanity which proves Spirits can be born in us via his seed the word...Thats y they call the bridegroom...even in the natural a bridegroom always reproduces himself... thats y he is saying whosoever receives one such child in my name receives me....She brought for a manchild which is the H.G that Child of Promise...The multiplication of very God in us...Thats y he has to know us thats when the good seed will sown in our hearts producing a new inner man....our new heart and new spirits..

.....Natural Israel ...Abrahams' seed was humans,..But the Israel of God are spirits..As God is spirit Thats y Jesus is saying that which is born of the spirit is spirits which is the H.G. the Children of Promise that are gonna be as the stars of heaven in multitudes...Thats y the New Birth is so important....We are gonna birth a baby Christ...Thats y he always refers to himself as the son of man...mankind has to be married to Christ and bring forth fruit unto God which are the Children of PROMISE... Romans 7 : 4....THE MULTIPLICATION of God..Ya gotta realise that it was God Almighty that swore by himself when he made this Promise..

    Dear Rebecca

I don't know if it can be used as a rule but the children of Israelites in the OT under 20 years old were allowed to enter the land if promise, where as their parents weren't. They were not held accountable for their sins, like revolting against God and Moses all the time. GBU

    Amen Giannis.

I believe atleast those passages gives us a principle. As Brother Chris said, the age may depend on the maturity and ability to comprehend what is at stake.

Deuteronomy 1:39. Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, WHICH IN THAT DAY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.

    God bless.

It all depends on the individual; if he/she knows without coercion on their own the reason and purpose that CHRIST came in the flesh; was the only begotten SON of GOD born of a virgin through miraculous conception by HOLY SPIRIT and was crucified for everyone's sin becoming our Passover; perfect sacrificial lamb without sin, rising 3 days later defeating death. Then the individual is at the age of accountability and is ready for baptism. If they know the reason for the baptism is to publicly show they know that CHRIST went in the tomb ( full submersion) and rose defeating death, them becoming a follower of CHRIST and a new person under CHRIST. I have known young children who were at the age and old people who weren't. Mark 10:14 CHRIST tells HIS disciples to let the children here HIM teach, some will take what HE said and understand. Bring up a child in teachings of the Bible Prov 22:6; Eph 6:4

The only way any of us know the difference between right and wrong at a young age is if we have been taught it from being very young , children are not born with knowledge or good manners or understanding , they are blank canvases , the adults around them need to be diligent in teaching their children . Eight is very young to expect a child to understand anything , you can train them but training isn't the same as understanding . I was in my late teens before I had any understanding of what Jesus's willing sacrifice for our sins was really about . Do you understand everything in the Bible ? I know I don't and I'm in my fifties . Understanding and wisdom comes with learning and prayer and life experience , children can be trained definately but it may be quite a while before they truly understand why they have been trained and what it all means . Children should be allowed to enjoy their childhood and not burdened with adult cares before they are adults , this is just my opinion . Much love to you in Christ .

Hi Rebecca. I don't believe that the Bible gives us a specific age of accountability, probably because an age is only a number & does not necessarily determine a child's understanding of sin & Christ's salvation.

For that reason, Christian parents usually speak to their children about Jesus' Sacrifice for them & need for repentance/accepting Him, when the children are quite young. Hence, we have ministries that focus on children (e.g. Child Evangelism Fellowship) or in-house ministries of Sunday School, etc. In the family, it would be the decision of the parents when they believe that their child knows that wrongdoing or sin has been committed, its consequences, & the Bible message of salvation. And this age could vary from child to child, even within the family. Though my thoughts are, & you may get some other suggestions, that the age of accountability would be around 5 or 6.
