    Hello, Ruth Robinson,

    Haggai 1:1,

Interestingly the Bible many times records things not with years & dates. It's actually genius because rulers have changed calendars multiple times, even the Hebrew "Jewish" calendar, but when records say as Haggai 1:1 "in the second year of king Darius' historical documents will still be reliable & relatable. Please see: Daniel 5:31, Daniel 11:1, Daniel 6, Ezra 4:5,24, Please note the significance of the 2nd year of Darius. The work on the house of GOD stopped until "the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia" Ezra 5:5,6,7, Ezra 6:1,12,13,14,15, here in Ezra 6:14, it even references Haggai, & Zechariah, Zechariah 1, again "the second year of Darius"

Part 2= the Word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet= GOD spoke to Haggai. A prophet = Numbers 12:6, Deuteronomy 18:15,18, Jeremiah 28:9,

Part 3: after GOD spoke to Haggai; Haggai then spoke the 'word' to Zerubbabel & Joshua.

The Bible many times will direct a prophet to specific people like Nathan to King David: 2Samuel 12:1,

Part 4: Many times the Bible will clarify by lineage who someone is because names are common. So "Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest" is clearly not mistaken for Joshua from the Book of Joshua. Also positions are clarified for I believe the same reason. Also see Nehemiah 12:22,

5th part, then it reads._.._"saying" It's now going to specify what GOD spoke, in the verses to follow._._

    I hope these are helpful

Haggai 1:9 Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.

10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.

Strong words from the Prophet. For reflection for everyone. Let it not be so with Your people Lord. Let them come to You with all of EVERYTHING. Build Your House. Amen.

    .

We should now know what kind of house this is.

God bless us in Jesus Name above all other Names.

WOW! This text is one that would bring an individual to the place God would they be especially when they have missed God previously and the work has gone undone. Talking about redeeming time and its importance to God to bring about a complete circle concerning the work of his chosen ones. This Word of God definitely opens the mind of one that missed his call to rebuild. Despite the persecution, one should understand that God has the authority to bring about a change.

Today, is it possible for church members who have allowed the 1st temple to dilapidate to ruins to listen and hear from God regarding the restoration of the temple or church building a 2nd time without the Sanhedrin's involvement or decision-making process? Meaning a tradition of man that states the Ministerial alliance committee has the authority to position pastors in a church within its jurisdiction if it is not the will of God?

I feel that this is a great message in example of people becoming insensative

There were actually three Temples recorded:

    a. Solomon's Temple ( 1 Kings 5:3-6:1 & 6:37-38). The King of Tyre supplied the timber & workmen for this work which took seven years in building.

    b. Zerubbabel's Temple ( Ezra 1, 3, 6). This temple was instigated & authorized by Cyrus in 538 BC but the work ceased because of Samaritan opposition & discouragement of many of the Jews. In 515 BC, the work was finally completed by Zerubbabel & Joshua after being encouraged to do so by the prophets Haggai & Zechariah to take up the unfinished work. ( Ezra 4:24-5:2; Haggai 1:1-2:9; Zechariah 4:7-10). But this temple wasn't as extravagant as Solomon's. This temple was plundered & desecrated by Antiochus Epiphanes in 169 BC.

    c. Herod's Temple. In about 20 BC, Herod the Great undertook to reconstruct the Temple with its surrounding courts & buildings. Most of the construction took about ten years to complete, but work was still going on while Jesus walked on the Earth & later. And this temple was destroyed by Emperor Titus of Rome in AD 70 & its furnishings & treasures carried off to Rome.

There is no biblical reference to another temple being built as Jesus Himself said, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." ( John 2:19), referring to His Body & three days later, His resurrection. And as you said, that we are the Temple of the Holy Ghost ( 1 Corinthians 6:19), so the old temple was destroyed (first by the rending of the vail & then by Titus), which ushered in the New Covenant with the Temple within us. There are references to the Temple in Heaven but in the New Jerusalem, there will be no need for one, as "the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it." ( Revelation 21:22).

Present day Jews want another Temple to be built, some wanting the institution of sacrifices as well, & others, not. Yet, 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 indicates that anti-Christ will one day sit in the temple showing himself to be God, so one can only guess on that one.

The question that I have is How many temples have there been? There was Solomons' Temple which was destroyed by Jeremiah's time. Israel came back 70 years later The Lord stirred up King Darius to give permission to have the temple built up again. So in Jesus' day when our Lord visited The Temple; was this the temple they built when the jews came back from Babylon? Have there only been 2 temples? One more question; Is there anywhere in the Bible where there's an order to build a 3rd temple? Are not we The temple of God? isn't God's Holy child Jesus Christ the Messiah the Only acceptable sacrifice to God? Sorry that was more than 2 questions.

Verse 13~Jehovah God reassured the people that he was there for them. He wanted to instill confidence in them so that they could carry out the work.

"This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD'S house should be built... Consider your ways." NOW in this present time, while we're here; NOW with deceitful and treacherous enemies working against us; NOW is the time to be holy and work and build the House of God. We do not wait till heaven to become holy! If we are not fit for His presence when He comes, we will only have shame.

Verse 5- Jehovah God is so loving and patient in how he wants us to really think about what we are doing. Sometimes we can forget our priorities and we should be grateful for his patience and reminders.
  • BSP on Haggai 1 - 6 years ago
Verse 6 shows that we need Jehovah God’s blessing in our lives. We can only enjoy any material things we have because God allows us to exist and find pleasure in different things. Our gratitude and knowledge of this fact should move us to put spiritual interests first.
  • Anne on Haggai 1 - 7 years ago
This chapter reminds me of Matt 6:31 'Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all things shall be added to you'. When we put the things of God first, then we shall prosper. I believe that when we neglect to worship God and give of our tithes and offerings we are never satisfied. No matter what we try to achieve it will come to naught without putting God first in our lives.

    V. 11, goes with 2 Chr. 7:13, and MANY others. The eastern, southern states of USA are in a drought, as the western states. Droughts are common to the west; until some wks. ago I had NEVER heard of droughts in the eastern, southern states. Jesus is talking.

Its our common body, Christ's body, the church which is the temple of the spirit. "Your"-(second person plural); "body"-(singular.)
  • Awakan Olumuyiwa on Haggai 1 - 8 years ago
The church of God for sure dwells by His gracious mercy. mankind has been taking spiritual commands for granted, but as the case is, my prayer is for us to abide through divine power of God to be able to prove beyond doubts our true love for Him.

We must always obey God,and His true prophets. We must learn to do the things of God first, like paying our tithes, vowa, offerings. In short,we should always seek the things of God,and His righteousness Matthew 6:33

  • Marvin on Haggai 1 - 9 years ago
It 's similar to the way some of us are now, we forget about GOD who brought us out of terrible situations, sickness desease death hunger etc. So as in Haggai the prophet let us return back to GOD that we may grow and put him first in our lives. It is he who made us and not we ourselves, praise GOD.
  • Nicola on Haggai 1:2 - 9 years ago
Sometimes we are busy with our own affairs that we forget or place less emphasis on the things we should prioritize eg our relationship with God or to even tell somebody about the gospel of truth.
  • Junior on Haggai 1:6 - 9 years ago
This passage is truly real and I personally feel guilty and convicted for relegating God to come 2nd best in my life. It 's my sincere prayer that i return back to his righteous ways and serve him in Truth and spirit.
  • M on Haggai 1 - 9 years ago
Solomon said that it was all is vanity because he realize that all the things stuff and junk that man have and get is not as important as serving and doing the will of GOD or obeying GOD, when GOD tells us that HE want something done HE want it done just as HE tell us to do it, .we can work 24 7 and not gain anything until we obey GOD, that is why we throw away on our wages and put hole in our pockets as soon as we receive it, it 's gone we never have enough or we are so comfortable in our houses that we forget about serving GOD like we should, we have to line with GOD HE does not have to line up with us.

Matthew 21:12-13..."My Father's house shall be called a house of prayer". Think of it. Makes me feel guilty for not having done much for the Lord's house.Little wonder then people struggle so much with little or nothing to show for it.God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him... Hebrews 11:6.
