    My question is it literal or figurative?

    Is says earth, most cases referring to the ground we walk on. Did God divide the earth as in the continents or placed them in land already separated (continents) as they are today? Like the world, 5 Hebrew translations, 3 Greek. Earth though all refer to the ground, dirt, soil in all three translations.

    1 Chronicles 1:19 - And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg; because in his days the earth was divided: and his brother's name was Joktan.

    Genesis 10:25

    "And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan."

    Genesis 10:32 - These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

    Genesis 11:16-19 - And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

    Deuteronomy 32:8 - When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.

    Aram also known as Aramea, was a historical region including several Aramean kingdoms covering much of the present-day Syria, southeastern Turkey, and parts of Lebanon and Iraq

    Aram, Ancient country, Middle East, southwestern Asia. It extended eastward from the Anti-Lebanon Mountains to beyond the Euphrates River.

    So the bands from Aram stopped raiding Israel's territory. Some time later, Ben-Hadad king of Aram mobilized his entire army and marched up and laid siege to Samaria.

    Today it's part of Syria Jordan Israel Lebanon.

    Esau means red , a red ribbon was tied around his foot when he and Jacob were being born , to indicate that Esau came out first . Most Bible scholars believe that Esau is the progenitor of the Arab nations . I'm inclined to agree .

    Hello Shirley. There's not a lot written about the man, Canaan, unlike the many references throughout the Old Testament to the Land of Canaan, its people, its idolatry, wars, etc. Since you're doing an essay on the man himself, the only references are in Genesis chapters 9 & Genesis 10:15; 1 Chronicles 1:8-16; and The Book of Jubilees (this is a pseudepigraphical book, i.e. one not considered worthy in content or authorship to be included into the Canon of Scripture), where you will find reference to Canaan (Jubilees 9:1; 10:29-34). I never use such books because of errors within them, but suggest this for your perusal (you can find exercepts of it on the Web) in case there may be something useful there.

    Randall Hi Nimrod is only mentioned 4 times in Gods word Gen. 10: Gen10:9 1 Chronicles 1:10 and Micah 5:6, the first 3 deal with genealogy and all three state that he was a mighty hunter before the lord, as shared before the word nimrod means rebel and the word mighty means defiant, this guy was absolute evil in the face pf God. His name is not written in

    the book of revelation but spiritually what He represented is. He was basically a male Jezebel, have you ever heard someone called nimrod or a female jezebel its not a compliment. Look him up in secular history he's a sick puppy also do not know how he died. Hope this answers both questions. God Bless

    Dear Sherry, same sex marriage Male or Female is a sin like any other. Anyone who consciously and willing continues in sin (any sin) demonstrates that he or she does not believe or perhaps care about what God says. Sadly, if anyone continues in sin, it sears the conscious and darkens the understanding resulting in hardening their heart. God cannot have fellowship with unrighteousness.

    As Spencer wrote, Romans 1 is a good reference.

    A long term sexual relationship (marriage) between a man and a woman is God's design. It is a physical example of Christ and the Church. Ephesians 5:31.. A same sex marriage is in defiance of God's design. How can God bless anything other than what He says is good?

    Please tell your friend that she is being deceived. God will give her understanding if She turn to the Lord.

    Also tell her to read Romans 1:18-28.

    and she will see why and how Homosexuality came into the world.

    May i give ya my feelings on the Antichrist, no pun intended. We are all Born ANTICHRIST thats y we must be Bornagain, Of an incorruptible seed Even by the living words of God .God wanted to destroy the whole nation of ISRAEL at 1 time b/c of their AntiGod spirit,There was none righteous no not ONE . Thats y he Rebuked Peter calling him SATAN simply b/c Peter had not been converted just yet . Ya gota realize that mans carnal mind is in rank with Satans head.     The genealogy of Shem (Noah's son) is being recorded here amongst others; it divides between the sons of Eber: Peleg & Joktan. And from Peleg the genealogy goes on to Abraham. So a part of Shem's descendants end in Babylon & the other with Abraham.

    Therefore two lines of humanity diverge at this point: those who wanted to make a name for themselves and those to whom God would make a name, with the call of Abraham. Joktan's line went eastward where the Tower of Babel was built.

    So I understand 1 Chronicles 1:19 & Genesis 10:25 (similar accounts) to show that the "earth's division (in those days)" was because of the forced separation (or division) because of the Lord's confusing of their common language which bonded all the families/tribes to stay together. And this was not God's intention, which required their separation from each other (Genesis chap 11).

    Some might look at that verse as describing the separating of the land into various land masses & nations, but I don't follow that line of thinking in this instance.

It was a marriage in which a less passionately vehement love attains high ethical qualities.

    Some say that Abraham went and brought Ishmaels mother, Hagar, back into the family tent. They did NOT have any other children. Ishmael was Hagars only child.

    That can't be right because he married Keyturah, had 6 children with her. They are listed in Abrahams Geneology.

    So, your accusation of incest is not truth.

    Adams son Abel was murdered by son named Cain. Third son Seth was born later. The bloodline that would bring Jesus continued through Seth. All people that carried the bloodline are recorded in the Bible.

    Seeking the story in the Old Testament of the Authorized King James Version of 1611 when the Joshua or some of his "administration" made a contract with Canaanitish people in direct conflict of God's command and clear instruction to not enter into treaties with the peoples of Canaan. They were somewhere in there identified as Nethinim and became servants of the Children of Israel.

    I must admit that reading chapters with names like these gives me such a headache, then I realized that I was being self-centered and selfish. Our God has given us the means to understand and prove to our own future generations where the authority comes from.

    When people write in the word, they should add pronunciations to some words cuase I was reading it and I could of sworn I was about to pass out, the names were sooo hard that I felt like I was going on a whimb. that's all I want to say. bye.

    To anyone on here, to get a good understanding of these 'tough' chapters, type in 'Matthew Henry's complete Bible commentary' on a search engine such as Ask.com, Scroll to the title I gave you; there is also always a 'concise' commentary, which is shorter for looking for just one or 2 verses. I read just the first 2 -3 pp of 1 chr. 2 - it was so good.

    When you want to know about a book, go to the 'commentary' above 'comments'. It's always by Matthew Henry and he is GOOD. It's plain to see the Lord led him to do this. Matthew H. was an English preacher in the 1700's. England was one of the countries where the Reformation took hold and produced lot of men led of God. You can see God was with them in their writings.

    to Delroy - I'm reading chronicles and I have to admit it can be hard to get through. Read through the books again, the message is "hidden" in the text. The lessons are not only in what is said, but how it is said. We will see the "lessons" reflected in the text when we learn to see ourselves through the text. The same for all the bible I reckon - hope that helps?
