Discuss Deuteronomy 33

Hello Deborah. If you look at the following verses, your query should be answered: Revelation 1:1; Revelation 22:8,9,16; which then answers Revelation 19:9,10.

One could compare this to the giving of the Law at Mt. Sinai ( Deuteronomy 33:2), when the LORD God came down upon the mount with ten thousand of His saints (angels), of whom it was said (in Acts 7:53), were present & used of God in some way in that delivery. There are various interpretations of this verse, but it can be seen that angels, at least certain angels, played an important part in the impartation of God's Message, which were actually voiced & given by the LORD & the risen Savior.

Hi Cathy. There are several men named Levi in the Bible ( Genesis 29:34; Mark 2:14; Luke 3:24; Luke 3:29), but I think you are referring to one of Jacob's sons. Nothing more is given about this Levi, but much is spoken about those who descended from him. One important portion of Scripture is in Deuteronomy 33:8-11, where Moses, before he died, gave his special blessings to each of Jacob's sons, & specifically to Levi in this passage. So, we can assume that Levi was a God-fearing man & brought up his children in like manner; though there were sins committed among certain of them.

    Hi Adam

    You asked,

Why can't both verses be true?

I do believe both verses are true.

I appreciate very much your input.

    I am struggling to understand,

Are you saying we are saved by both works and grace?

I did say I do believe we are saved by both.

But as far as Bible contradictions, they do exist.

And to say Paul and James contradict would not be an issue.

The Bible contradicts itself quite often.

    It is not uncommon.

Nevertheless, it does not shake my faith in the Bible.

    For example,

Matthew records Christ came through David's son Solomon ( Matthew 1:6)

But Luke records Christ came through David's son Nathan ( Luke 3:31)

Exodus 33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

Exodus 33:11 And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.

And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah. ( 2 Samuel 24:1)

And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. ( 1 Chronicles 21:1)

Who provoked David, God or Satan?

Is Judah or Dan are a lion's whelp?

And of Dan he said, Dan is a lion's whelp: he shall leap from Bashan. ( Deuteronomy 33:22)

Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? ( Genesis 49:9)

And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people. ( Exodus 32:14)

And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent. ( 1 Samuel 15:9)

    Hello Gary,

    I concur with Jesse.

The Scriptures say that God is everlasting and eternal, without beginning nor being created and will never cease to exist. Life and existence belong wholly to Him. They do not exist outside of God, meaning He did not acquire them from anything outside of Himself. He always has possessed these.

    Genesis 21:33 (Eternal)

    Isaiah 63:16 (Everlasting)

    Isaiah 26:4 (Rock eternal)

Jeremiah 10:10 (the living God, the Eternal King)

    Romans 16:26 (Eternal God)

1Tim 1:17 (unto the King eternal immortal)

    Hebrews 9:14 (eternal Spirit)

1John 5:20 (He is the true God and Eternal life)

Ps. 93>2 (You are from all eternity)

    Deuteronomy 33:27 (Eternal)

1 Chronicles 16:36 (the God of Irael, from everlasting to everlasting)

Nehemiah 9:5 (who is from everlasting to everlasting)

Isaiah 9:6 (Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace)

Isaiah 40:28 (The Lord is the Everlasting God)

Habakkuk 1:12, (O lord, are You not rom everlasting?)

Isaiah 57:15 (the Lofty One, who lives forever

    Hope these help.

    Gary,

The Bible speaks of God being both eternal and everlasting ( Psalm 90:2, Genesis 21:33, Deuteronomy 33:27) just to name a few.

In order to understand God being both eternal and everlasting, we would have to conclude that God has no beginning and no end.

If we ask who created God, then we would then have to ask who created the person that created God, and it would never ever end. So, if it never ends, it can only be logical that God has no creator but has always been in existence.

    Thank you, Jesse.

God is true to His words. I stop thinking. Surely understand to walk in Spirit.

My heart already literally stopped last year due to COVID and yet God brought me back. I know I still have things to do for His Glory.

    Deuteronomy 33:25

Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.

    26

There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky.

    27

The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

    2 Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death." Revelation 12:11 KJV

Complete comfort and benefits are for those who abide in Him. Never so well supported or borne up as we who are washed in the blood of the Lamb. Divine grace is sufficient for me. We are well commanded so there for more than conquerors over the spiritual wickedness in high places. I am secured. My security and protection is in the arms of My Savior God and King. The Lord provides for all my needs. The Lord is my present Help daily. My victory is assured in my Salvation provided for through the shedding of the precious blood of my God, The Lord Jesus Christ. Help me to set my affections daily on You and Your Word. Col 3:1

I read in Jude Enoch prophetically said that the lord comes with ten thousands of his saints , sure sounds like the same saints verses 14,15 ,16 amazing the word of God is

    Deuteronomy 33v3

These saints also called people , existing before Moses time , also there is a reference to this in Ecclesiasticus ch 45 v 1,2,3

    Theses saints origin ?

It could also be what God Meant when he said "let us make man in our image . "

We know God is Spirit , but if these saints where with God before the creation of the World , and there is nothing saying they where not . But they where before Moses time .

Enoch is said to be an example of repentance to all generations and was translated, read in Ecclesiasticus 44 v 16
  • Chris - In Reply on Ephesians 3:2 - 3 years ago
Here in Deuteronomy 33:1-3, the reference to "ten thousands of his saints" refers to God's Holy Angels. We get similar references to angels in Psalm 68:17 & Daniel 7:10.

Moses, prior to his death, related his experience at the giving of the Law at Sinai. Such was the greatness of that event, the Power & Beauty of the Law, that in its presentation, myriads of angelic beings accompanied the LORD. Now, it can't be assumed that Moses physically saw all this. But we're told in Exodus chapter 19 that prior to the giving of the Law, all the people had to stay well away from the mountain or they would die, that there would be thunderings & lightnings, fire & smoke & trumpet sounds. All these seem to indicate the moving of God from Heaven with His 'saints' for the purpose of the giving of the Law.

Dear Joyce; I was just reading in Ezekiel 13 and found clearly written answers to our questions about missing names or tribes. "And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel.." Please read Ezekiel 13!

Simeon is mentioned 50 times through out the King James Bible, in Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezekiel, Luke, Acts, and Revelation.
    May God bless you.

The Hebrew word translated as strength is probably idiomatic for spiritual maturity. Only one Biblical character seemed stronger in his old age and that was Caleb who took on the giants in Judea. Where are the others? Whereas the idea of growing spiritually mature is progressive as we continue to study God 's Word as we gracefully age.

Moses prayed that God would hear the voice of Judah during his times of distress, because as ' 'a lion, killing his victim and returning to his den... ' ' Judah would stand to defend the Kingdom of God. This was pictured in 2 Chronicles 13, ' 'And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets. Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah. ' ' vv. 15-16. Moses requested that God would bring unite Judah unto his people. God originally, never planned that there would be any sort of schism among the tribes of Israel. He wanted them to be one strong, united nation not two nations. Moses, through the eyes of the Spirit, saw the separation of Judah from the rest of the tribes of Israel, and Moses prayed that God would unite them. Similarly, Jacob, their father, on his deathbed prophesied that when Shiloh Jesus, the Lion of the tribe of Judah comes, there shall be a gathering of His people Genesis 49:10 . This means, that Christ shall unite Israel both the physical and spiritual Israel at His second coming. Another blessing for Judah is that his hands would be sufficient for him and God would be his only aid. Yes, like a lion, Judah kills his victim and returns to his den. God strengthens them enough to defend their cause. They do not seek for an external aid to help them fight their battle. God is their only, and sufficient help.
