To fear God is out of respect of His authority, Power and Greatness. It shouldn't be confused with the fear that derives from anxiety or that which seperates us from the love of God.

Psalms 111:10 - The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

The FEAR of the LORD is the beginning of WISDOM; a good understanding have all they that do His commandments, His praise endures forever. To fear God means to be conscious of His person, presence and love; using it as a guiding basis in our actions and inactions. To fear means to live in obedient devotion to God, and this has nothing to do with being religious, it is a lifestyle that is chosen ( Prov. 1:19).

However, the foundation of true wisdom, lies in the fear of the Lord. When you fear Him, you would be more God-conscious than sin-conscious. Joseph asserts that shall I do this great wickedness and sin against God? That was a statement from a man who feared the Lord.

And it does not stop there. This verse also stated that GOOD UNDERSTANDING HAVE ALL THEY THAT DO HIS COMMANDS. What a deep phrase! There's good understanding and there is bad understanding. One brings favor, while the other leads to hardship.

May God help us live in the reality and consciousness of this truth in the name of Jesus.

Verse 10-clear thinking and practical application of knowledge begin with viewing the Creator with awe. And the next verse mentions that this makes us happier people.

Jack in Psalms 111:9 He (Lord) sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.

per my understanding only the Lord is to be called reverend.

It comes from this root word: REVE'RE, verb transitive [Latin revereor; re and vereor, to fear.]

To regard with fear mingled with respect and affection; to venerate; to reverence; to honor in estimation.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Just along the giving or taking of titles from my understanding of psalms 111:7-10 verse 9 states holy and reverend is his name. Speaking of God . I personally would call no man or woman reverend. The bible teaches that forbidding to marry and abstaining from meats is wrong. I believe the bible .

No Fear of GOD always equal to us leaning unto our own understanding which always result in a sinful mind-set. Mankind continue to build personal-relationships, marriages, homes, cities, religions, most-times without the Commandments of GOD which always results in the wrath of GOD sooner or later. Many even ignore the TRUTH that we must be BORN AGAIN, as it relates to SALVATION. John 3:16-21

Psalms 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. 2 Corinthians 7:15 And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him. Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

GEN 1-7...I notice from the comments I read, their seems to be an absence of honor, homage, or fear of the Lord, Psalms 111:10...The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments, his praise endureth for ever. Instead of accepting the word at face value, as if our Heavenly Father could not preserve his holy word, which were written by Holy men as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. It seems you are straining at the gnat to swallow the camel. You all seem to be concerned with everything but the right thing quibbling over 1st age, 2nd age, 3rd age, like you know, can 't you see, he 's got you by the hind end, right where he wants you. Totally blind and ignorant of the Truth. HOSEA 4:6...My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, because thou hast rejected knowledge, I WILL REJECT THEE, that thou shall be no priest to me, seeing thou has forgotten the LAW of thy GOD, I will also forget thy children. MALACHI 3:6...I AM THE LORD, I CHANGE NOT. To reject the 4th Commandment, you are rejecting GOD That 's exactly what satan wants you to do. PRAISE THE GOD OF THE SABBATH FOR HE CREATED EVERY LIVING THING IN SIX DAYS. AMEN!!

Psalm 111:6 The LORD GOD showed the children of Israel the power of HIS works by parting the Red Sea, feeding them manna in the wilderness, and many powerful works.JEHOVAH GOD did this to show his children that they should trust in the LORD their GOD. Don't be as the heathen or as the world, but rather remain holy and righteous. God has the power to give the heritage to HIS children so that they would do righteously with integrity unto what has been entrusted and given.

The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom. It is not a morbid fear of God, but the fear of displeasing him, and breaking his commandments. If you think about it, those commandments are very wise for us today. For example if people would follow God 's laws on fornication, would we have so many children born out of wedlock? Not knowing their mother or father? Teenage pregnancy? Yes following God 's standards as found in the Bible proves to be wise every time.
  • Brianna on Psalms 111:10 - 9 years ago
A very practical and powerful scripture. This calls to question what does it mean to Fear Jehovah? In accordance with this scripture, the fear of disobeying his commandments and displeasing him. The laws in the Bible serve as a great protection from many of the pitfalls that befall so many today. Would it not be wisdom to obey those laws, and benefit ourselves???

Psalm 111 says, 'Praise the Lord! I will thank the Lord with all my heart. ... He has paid a full ransom for his people. He has guaranteed his covenant with them forever. ... ' This is talking about God coming to the earth as Jesus and dying in our pace on the cross. This is how the ransom for us was paid. But the problem is, most people do not believe that Jesus is God. Most people think that he is a lesser being or person. But many are not sure who Jesus is. So I make this point right now. Jesus is God Almighty, and he has come to save us. Don 't be confused by Jesus calling himself the Son Of God. He called himself the Son of Man, too. He did this to idetity himself with both God and man. He was the God Man. In other words, the term Son of God for Jesus is a title he used to identify himself while walking on the earth as a man. Let 's not forget what John said about him in John 1, verse 2. "... And the Word was God. ' And let 's not forget the words of Thomas in the upper room. 'My Lord and my God. ' Yes, God as Jesus has come to save us, and he did this by giving him life as a ransom for many. May God bless you!
