Discuss Psalms 55

Good evening, Chris. I find it fascinating that people have such a difficult time with thinking their salvation may not be secure. Answer me this, does God change? Does Jesus change? Does the Holy Spirit change? The answer to all those is no, of course not. Then why would God 'change' His requirements for a relationship with Him? He wouldn't. What is the main difference between the Old and New Testaments? The advent of Christ and His sacrifice on the cross for all mankind, including those who lived prior to His earthly life starting in Bethlehem. While believers in the OT went to Paradise, as opposed to Heaven, they were still God's children and were in Paradise until Christ's crucifixion and resurrection set them free (so to speak) to go to Heaven. All that to say this, do you recall anyone speaking of eternal security for the likes of Abraham, Noah, Moses, Rahab, Seth or David? No, you haven't because it didn't exist even though when they died and went to Paradise, they could never lose their relationship with God and be booted over the chasm to Hades.

So, why all of a sudden with Christ's birth, death, and resurrection, do we suddenly decide that God has provided eternal security for us? If according to Psalms 55:19, 102:27, Daniel 7:14, Malachi 3:6 and Hebrews 1:12, 13:8, God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit do not change, then let's quit convincing ourselves they do. Have a good Thanksgiving and thanks for your time...

PS OT saints got in the book of Life the 'old-fashioned' way, trust and obedience. It works every time. Amen.

Yes we are assigned to wrath...As Jesus said every sinner will have his part in the lake of fire....Which is his baptism of the H.G. and FIRE....The only way his vengence ( his wrath ) can be satisfied is by the lake of fire....His wrath is his love whom the lord loveth he chastens.... Hebrews 12 :8...If ye be without chastisement then are ye bastards and not sons....But we cannot tell ppl we are not assigned to wrath....When ye say things like that you are in essence saying we don't need his baptism of the H.G. AND FIRE...Nor his lake of fire....Jesus said every sinner MUST have his part in the lake of FIRE....Which is his baptism of the H.G. and fire.....Then and only then are we made free from his wrath....YA GOT TO RIGHTY DIVIDE THE WORD OF GOD

Whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire...Our names are written in the book of life when we are baptised with the H.G. and fire...That New BIRTH IS WHEN His wrath is satisfied when we are washed in his blood... That NEW Covenant in his blood is the book of life....Simply b/c he wrote this book with his own blood....

Behold i send the Promise of my father upon you... Luke 24:49...Which was baptism of the H.G. AND FIRE.....The only thing that satisfies his wrath....We cannot do away with his baptism of the H.G. and fire.....Thats y he is saying every sinner has to have his part in the lake of fire....As our God is a consuming fire that has to consume our old evil adamic nature....

Jesus is a man of war...there is vengence in his heart... Psalms 55:21....Thus his wrath....His words were softer then oil but war was in his heart and his words were smother then butter but they were as drawn swords....Thus we see that there is war in his heart...Vengence ...thus wrath....But whom the lord loveth he chastens....Thus his wrath is his love for humanity...But if there was no wrath no, No chastisement then we wd be bastards and not sons... Hebrews 12:10....

Psalm 55. An impreccatory Psalm; not mincing words about destruction and hell for the wicked. This Psalm also has prophetic implications as well.

The first five verses show at the very least an anticipation of death; verse 4 discusses the "heart is sore pained within me."...The description of this could be David himself but also as with many other passages in Psalms could also be describing Messiah's sufferings.

Verses 6 through 8 reflect the desire to escape such as was stated by other Prophets and by David himself in 1 Samuel 27:1.

Verses 9 through 11 also discuss a general observation of Jerusalem; which was particularly true before God's judgments such as with the Babylonians; although it could apply to other times as well.

Verses 12 through 15 describe a prophecy of Judas Iscariot and betrayal; although conceivably it could describe a friend of David's as well. ( Matt. 26:21 and 30 other verses discuss this in the N.T.)

Verses 16 through 18 talk of the importance of prayer and deliverance. Verse 19 and 23 talk again of the destruction of the wicked. Verse 22 just beforehand gives the opposite promise that He will "never suffer the righteous to be moved."

Verses 20 and 21 could very well signify the Antichrist himself with the 1st Seal behavior also mentioned in Daniel 9:27. It is not evident that this had any relation with a direct experience David was having.

We need to keep in mind that even the elect would be decieved IF IT WERE POSSIBLE ( Matthew 24:24). God knows who are His own ( 2 Tim. 2:19). Man may make a determination who is a "saint"; although even the paltry hundreds the Catholic church honors are at times cherry picked to be "desainted".

We need to look carefully at such passages as the parable of the sower and the seeds. It gives us understanding that only those who persevere unto the end ( Matthew 24:13 near the other verse I quoted earlier) will be saved. What I hadn't considered until more recently is the reality that ALL (wheat and tares) start off in the same position; there is an immediate response to the gospel; then trials of this life along with temptations. His children ultimately will endure until fruit is produced; the tares will not.

It is sobering to know that even now true believers have 1 Cor 10:13 to stand on. The tares are unaware of their own true state. They may ascribe privledge as an advantage to following Christ as Lot's wife or Judas Iscariot illustrates. There are all sorts of reasons (personal pride; social status; self righteousness) that motivate some to continue to attend church and fellowship when their hearts are not truly in it.

A sobering passage to further verify that there is no hope for those tares is in Revelation 13:8. Satan is the god of this world and not only are all in sin and enemies of God without the cross; but if left behind will take the mark of the Beast. And that will be AFTER worshipping his image. Those who are forced to take the mark or die and refuse will be the Tribulation saints.

These verses also show us that even now we need to proclaim boldly the truth of Christ ( Matthew 10:32). Only God can give us this strength; a bitter lesson Peter had to learn in scripture.

These are dark days; and often those who call themselves believers are the most difficult to be around. May you continue to shine forth as salt and light.

This Psalms gives glimpse into the world we live in. As David wanted to fly away, I have often times envied the fouls of the air.

Such great deception going on, even those we refer to as elect.

Oh Lord, keep my heart, mind and soul firmly planted in you. Let everything else fade away. Your yoke is easy. And even though I am not a bird of the air you love me even more and will provide and protect me. Praise God. To you be all the glory

Oh as i rejoice over this gray and cold day, in the rain. I can put some wood in the oven and get heat. I read all the anointed's thoughts and notes, and pray for u all. And can state that the heart is bubbling over with the Lord's comfort and His heart for reconciliation, for all of us. John 17.

Far away from other people's noise and unsaved thoughts, i can seek Jesus' peace among the wild animals in the forest. It's a special bird that i love to hear, he says: Where are you ,,, my dear? I'm completely put off by this bird's chirping. It's like a love song. And is it not that dear friends, all sound from all creation is a song of praise to our God? Romans 8:18-25

This bird sings louder than all the other beeps and screams in the forest. "I call it my talatrosis". It's really a Mltrost, (target thrush) unfortunately the English translation has nothing to explain to me, i can not find the correct answer in English, but when you hear this bird, it is a sure sign of spring far north in Europe.

So today while the wood is crackling in the oven, the window is up,

and the fresh air from young newly awakened pine forest penetrates into my living room, and into my lungs. And i can hear this lovely bird chirping from the big forest. The river flows below and no one else sounds this day. Where i can find my self and lift myself up to God in the certainty of victory that He one day, (and He is coming soon).

Will put everything in order for us. Psalms 55:23 Through Jesus Christ we will always find a way out. He Is Immutable! As we seek our Heavenly Homes, 2 Timothy4:18 i will find such peace as here today. Without pain and heavy body. Only rest in the Lord, in the Lord, and all things are done for Him who is Worthy. And this i get to be a part of, because to take my eyes off Jesus i do not. I will always raise His Name if the opportunity is there.

I will never be ashamed of Jesus and all that He has done for all of us, Amen. Stay blessed in Jesus name, love u in Christ.

What I do know is that God didn't lie:

Numbers 23:19 "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"

Titus 1:2 "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;"

    -

The Bible says to trust Him, and not lean on our own understanding of how things should happen, or if certain promises should have applied to him, but didn't:

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

    -

Only God knows the "hidden things of darkness" in the hearts of men (we can't know everything):

1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

    -

And God's thoughts and judgements are infinitely higher than ours:

Isaiah 55:6-9 - 6Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

7Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

8For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

    -

The Bible also shows us there are things that can shorten our lives - I obviously don't know if this specific verse applies, but as an example, having certain things in his heart and actions (even if it's not this particular verse) wouldn't be honoring the parents who raised him:

    Psalms 55:23

"But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee."
  • Earl Bowman - In Reply on John 21 - 2 years ago
Brother Adam, two more examples of opposite translations for the same Hebrew word, sheol.

Psalms 31:17 Let me not be ashamed, O Lord; for I have called upon Thee; let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the GRAVE (Heb. sheol).

Psalms 55:15 Let DEATH seize upon them, and let them go down quick into HELL (Heb. sheol), for wickedness is in their dwellings and among them.

Two scriptures about the destination of the wicked; yet one goes to the GRAVE and the other goes to HELL. Both translated from the same word, sheol.

The WAGES of sin is DEATH, when you die you go to the grave (sheol).

Speak these out with confidence every day until they start building you up in your spirit. Memorize some.

Psalms 55:22 - Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

1 Peter 5:7 - Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Isaiah 41:10 - Fear thou not; for I amwith thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

    Job 23:16

For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:

    Job 41:3

Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?

    Psalms 55:21

The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.

    Psalms 65:10

Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof.

    Proverbs 15:1

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

    Proverbs 25:15

By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

    Isaiah 38:15

What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

    Matthew 11:8

But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

    Luke 7:25

But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.

    *********

I didn't find any soft headed people. I'm not sure what that means biblically either.

What version of Bible are you using?

In 2 Samuel Chapter 15, David's son Absalom led an insurrection that drove David from the throne and away from Jerusalem. Absalom convinced David's personal counsellor Ahithophel to join him in the conspiracy. He, as likely as any, is the one spoken of in this psalm. This also gives a foretelling of Jesus betrayed by his own personal confidant, Judas Iscariot.

No, wonder David said; I looked to the hill which cometh my help, my help cometh from the Lord. After reading psalms 55. How death was all around him, and he couldn't trust anyone: so he hid himself and prayed too the Lord for help. Even his own son took it upon himself with a few people he convinced that he should be king. What doe a king do?. He pray and when God delivered him. I have the exclusive on Psalm 55:19 20. I was writing, using the Bible and not breaking out, that God wanted me to go so far as to break his covenant as is said in verse 20. At the last minute he confirmed what I was to do, when I opened randomly to a verse in the Bible and it was these passages. I would have told the world when it was hot, but my public attorny advised against it. Better I had!
